All screen shots taken from the Dell UP2414Q running at full 3840 X 2160 resolution, connected to the Apple MacBookPro Retina. They are displayed here at double-res (half size box).
Display scaling
OS X 10.9.3 supports display scaling and pixel doubling for text. Choosing
uses 2:1 pixel doubling. That makes programs “see” the display as 1920 X 1080, which delivers eye-friendly text and user interface elements, but preserves full screen resolution for retina-savvy applications displaying images and video (most all programs as of 2014).Dual display support
OS X 10.9.3 supports dual displays. The laptop display (2880 X 1600 retina) is arranged here below the 3840 X 2160 Dell UP2414Q in an extended desktop arrangement.
Color profile
The Dell UP2414Q ships with a factory calibration sheet. The setting here is a built-in OS X color profile for the expected calibration. Depending on how the display itself is set (sRGB or AdobeRGB or other mode), it might or might not be accurate. The 2414Q is not a professionally calibrated solution in this regard.
