Reviewing Nikon Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S, Nikon Nikkor Z 24mm f/1.8 S vs Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S, also Nikon Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8 S

I was not able to obtain one of the first Canon EOS R5 cameras, so I’ve had to move to Nikon mirrorless for now, something long overdue. I had hoped to delay in order to cover things on a new Nikon Z7S , but the Z7S looks to be a late 2020 arrival and that’s too far off. I’ll do the newer lenses that have not yet shipped later this year, like the Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S.
Coming soon also (pending availability): the new Sony FE 12-24mm f/2.8 GM vs the Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G, hopefully together new Sigma FE 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art too.
Enough coding IntegrityChecker in my man-cave! With a new roof on my aging house at long last, and a ton of catch-up tree trimming and brush work and garage cleaning done, I’m heading out tomorrow to the Eastern Sierra to go shoot the Nikon Z7 and lenses, hopefully for some peak-bagging too, if my daughter can keep up with her old man*. But it has to be a quick trip due to her schedule.

I’m keen to see whether the Nikon 20mm and 24mm primes can appreciably outperform the 14-30mm f/4. Even if they are only a little better, 2 and 1/3 stop faster speed makes them highly desirable for many shooting situations.
Later when available, I’ll tackle these lenses too:
* While my cycling jerseys are too tight due to putting on even more than usual winter weight due to lack of my usual double century season, I’ve returned to an old fitness routine of Olympic bar squats and upper body stuff. I’d swear that I put on more muscle in just 3 weeks than I have in decades, perhaps due to fixing a magnesium deficiency problem. At the least it has cured 30 years of asthma—I have not used my prescription inhaler for 10 weeks now.
