What matters to me in a camera for my shooting is how it fares under real world conditions when pushed to its limits—that is, doing so is a proxy for what one can expect with less exposure 'abuse'.

I agree with your observations about the undesirable subjective quality of the noise compared to the D810. However, the quality of the Milvus 18mm glass really shines in this image.
While the DR improvement didn't materialize, the extra pixel advantage seems to be there for optics that can utilize it. Subjectively in total, it is very pleasing to me.
