Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 Distagon Examples: Getting Low and Close for Semi-Macro

Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8

Get Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 Distagon and see my Sony mirrorless wish list at B&H Photo.

With its 1:7.8 reproduction ratio at MOD (minimum object distance), the Loxia 21/2.8 affords close range possibilities with strong perspective.

The combination of a 21mm wide angle lens at close range substantially equalizes the sizes of the near objects to the far objects: much larger background objects shrink by the inverse square law, and far smaller objects remain large by virtue of close distance. This plays with our sense of relative sizes and makes for intriguing near/far juxtapositions of strongly emphasized nearby subject in a much broader context. This “balancing act” can deliver perspective and size relationships not possible with longer focal lengths, or with lenses unable to focus closely.
