Ricoh GR: Lens Quality and MTF
Published in my review of the Ricoh GR in Guide to Mirrorless is commentary on the lens quality of the Ricoh GR as well an analysis of its MTF performance relative to 28mm Leica M lenses.
Ricoh deserves praise for providing non-fantasy MTF charts, what Ricoh calls “Diffraction MTF” charts: so many MTF charts (Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc) do not take diffraction into account (in short, computed fantasy charts having no relation to reality).
Ricoh also deserve praises for stating that the results are calculated (not measured). While measurement of real lenses is preferable (since real lenses have to be built and are never perfect), stating the approach used is the key issue.
