Mountain Shooting To Do
Back at home, with a 'mountain' of material to work through.
For the entire trip, every day reminded me why I like October photography so much: mellow light (sun much lower in the sky) and truncated daylight hours, which affords more sleeping time! Especially at very high altitude (11,000' or so), physiological demands are higher, and recovery is also significantly impaired. I certainly felt it.
Near the summer solstice the sun rises and sets rapidly, vaulting up at dawn and plunging below the horizon at day’s end, with little “sweet light” and nearly the entire day experiencing an intense flat lighting. And on this trip, every day proffered a cloudless blue sky with nary a sunrise or sunset cloud for color. Tough rowing, but I made do in various ways. Such a sharp contrast to an August in the very far north, where sunset and sunrise last for hours (each), and afford a relaxed pace.
Images below during my very last day as an aseasonal storm arrived with a drizzly warm rain, dashing my hopes for high-country snow.
