Death Valley with Leica and Zeiss
I’m heading to Death Valley soon, and I plan to do a variety of photographic work there.
My intentions for photo work (subject to conditions) include:
For my Guide to Leica:
- Comparing the Leica 21mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH to the .
- Comparing the Leica28mm f/2 Summicron-M ASPHto the .
A big thank-you to LensRentals.com for making the 21/1.4 and 28/2 available.
My main interest with the 28/2 Summicron will be exploring its f/2 - f/5.6 performance compared to the 28/2.8 Elmarit, and especially at f/2 and f/2.8. But certainly I will also be looking for f/8 performance as well.
As for the 21/1.4 vs 21/3.4, that is a dual goal: what kind of quality is obtainable from f/1.4 - f/2.8 (apertures not available on the 21/3.4), and how do the two lenses compare for peak quality at f/5.6 - f/8.
For my Zeiss Guide:
- The Zeiss ZF.2 25mm f/2 Distagon on the Nikon D3x, examples and comparisons with the Nikon 24/1.4G and 25/2.8 Distagon.
- Perhaps a fresh look at the 21/2.8 Distagon with respect to the 25/2 Distagon.
DAP — regrettably, the Fuji X-Pro1 and Nikon D4 and Nikon D800 / D800E and Canon 1D X are all arriving 3-6 weeks later, but those will all go into DAP.
I am also very excited about something else new I’ll also be shooting there.
